La Jolla Engagement Photos at Cabrillo Lighthouse | A Romantic San Diego Coastal Session
Some places simply feel like California. I’m talking- the salty breeze, the golden cliffs, the endless blue horizon, and a historic lighthouse overlooking it all. This engagement session with Rachel and Scott at the La Jolla Cabrillo Lighthouse was the perfect reminder that the best photos aren't just about beautiful locations. They're about creating space for two people to simply be together. As a San Diego engagement photographer, my goal is always to create images that feel effortless, genuine, and timeless. This session was exactly that.
A Coastal Engagement Session at the La Jolla Cabrillo Lighthouse
There is something magical about the coastline in San Diego. Every turn offers another incredible backdrop from dramatic sandstone cliffs to quiet beaches and iconic architecture. Rachel and Scott picked the La Jolla Tide pools and Lighthouse because it is one of their favorite spots on the San Diego coast. We started our session at the tide pools just below the Cabrillo Lighthouse. It is made of beautiful golden cliffs with some greenery and space to run around. We moved our way up to the Lighthouse just in time for golden hour where the crisp white building contrasted beautifully against the cloudless blue sky. The clean lines of the lighthouse created a classic, editorial feel while still allowing the focus to stay on the couple.
Instead of stiff posing, we leaned into movement. I asked them to play tag, to run, slow dance, plane airplanes, and to just be themselves! The result was a gallery full of authentic moments!

What to Wear for Coastal Engagement Photos
This is the biggest question I get when it comes to needing help planning before a session! My answer is always- simple neutral colors like earth tones, light blues, denim. Don’t wear super busy small patterns. The goal coordinating outfits, not matching! Wear something comfortable and that you can move in. If you don’t like your outfit, not gonna lie, it will show.
