A Surprise Proposal at Ponte Winery | San Diego Engagement Photographer
There's a particular kind of anxiety right before a proposal happens — the anxiety where everyone but the her knows what's about to unfold. I got that feeling while hiding in the garden waiting for Gio to bring Jordan to Ponte Winery in Temecula! It's exactly the kind of moment I love being trusted with.
Wine country is a special vibe for Gio and Jordan because they actually met in Italy while both working there. Gio’s vision was proposing under this little pergola near the pond, vineyard rows stretching out behind and the hills doing that soft golden-haze thing they do out in Wine Country. Jordan had no idea so much so she asked to spot by a different winery first, stressing Gio out.
Of course she said yes once he got down on one knee!
What I love most about photographing proposals is what happens in the thirty seconds after the question. The relief. The laugh that's also kind of a cry. The way she reached for his hand like she needed to hold onto something real. That's the part I'm always watching for, more than the kneel itself.
We took a moment to breathe on Spanish tile steps near the inn! Be still my heart, that color palette — where they just got to sit together and laugh about the fact that it had actually happened. No more nerves to hide. Just two people who are now engaged, sitting in the sun, completely unbothered by the rest of the world. Eventually, we needed a glass of wine (because — Ponte, obviously), running in the vineyard and letting them be silly. Somewhere between sips they forgot I was there at all, which is always my favorite sign that a session is going well.
